The following information about Texas Rebates for Electric Vehicles is provided directly by the state of Texas Commission of Environmental Quality.

The Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program provides grants for purchasing or leasing new vehicles or conversion systems, powered by alternative fuel. See below for details about eligibility and how to apply.

Grants for Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Conversion Systems

  • Capped at 2,000 applications per year
  • Eligible applicants: Individuals, corporations, organizations, governments, or governmental subdivisions or agencies, business trusts, partnerships, or any other legal entity.

    Eligible projects:

    • Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, such as cars, and small- or medium-sized trucks. Must:
      • Be purchased or leased new.
      • Operate on compressed natural gas, liquified petroleum gas (propane), hydrogen fuel cell, or electric drive (plug-in or plug-in hybrid).
    • Conversion systems for compressed natural gas or propane.

  • Federal tax credit
    • New vehicles: Up to $7,500 for the purchase of a qualifying new BEV, PHEV, or Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)
    • Used vehicles: Up to $4,000 for the purchase of a pre-owned BEV, PHEV, or FCEV
